Nature on the Allotment Field

Allotments are part of a network of valuable green spaces in towns and villages, providing steppingstones and wildlife corridors for dispersal. Animals such as hedgehogs roam over large distances visiting gardens, allotments, and other green spaces.

Since the allotments occupy only about a fifth of the area of the field, there is plenty of room for other habitats – some, such as the main ditch and the Chilton Brook, already existed, other have been protected or improved according to our Habitat Improvement Plan.
